Get to know Julius Desmond!
“My goal as a photographer has always been to redefine the standards of beauty. I believe beauty comes in all shapes, forms, and sizes. My profession as a photographer is to capture that beauty and magnify it to its highest degree. Being in the photography industry in the Chicago land area is very competitive. I’ve gained a lot of my inspiration from many of the creative individuals around me, the creative community of Chicago helps to fuel my passion and I am constantly learning from them. I believe it is important to work with the tools and environment you are given. As I stated earlier it’s our profession as photographers to magnify the beauty in everything. When people think of Julius Desmond Photography, I want them to think dark, edgy and sexy; I think these qualities best describe my work as a whole. Although I am not afraid to do something completely outside of the norm, doing something outside the norm excites me. Aside from finding my inspiration from others around me, some of my major influences come from music, pop culture, and nature; I’ve always been a fan of the Suicide Girl style. Although I have many influences, it’s also very important to maintain my own originality and add a bit of my own personality to each of my creative projects. Photography is definitely my biggest passion! Before my time as a photographer, I worked in various other industries. I’m sure some of you can relate to this, but I worked many positions that made me feel as if I had to suppress to my own individuality and conform to corporate standards. Being a Photographer has taught me that there are no limits or boundaries when it comes to art. My advice to any in the creative industry would be, always express yourself freely and openly never be discouraged or intimidated. Not everyone will like everything you do so do it for the love of your art and not for the love of others and only then will you attract your true audience.”
